Akagera National Park’s outstanding landscapes and diverse vegetation are remarkably beautiful in a country that is dominated by forest vegetation and already blessed with its fair share of jaw-dropping views. The 4 days Akagera National Park safari will have you touring the sweeping plains via a hot air balloon, riding a boat on Lake Ihema, game driving through different landscapes and visiting the Imigongo Art Center to learn about art designs from cow dung. Today is for arriving Rwanda and transferring to Akagera National Park by road. Our Company representative (safari driver) will pick you up from the Airport on arrival. This is followed by a 2-hour road transfer that takes you to the Easter part of the country. On getting to the park, spend the evening at your lodge surrounded by sweeping plains, woodlands and other beautiful ecosystems.
The second day is a full day of exploring Akagera National Park, beginning with a hearty breakfast at the Safari Lodge and drive to the heart of the Park while encountering Kobs, lions, spotted hyenas, Olive baboons, Topis, African bush elephants, Rhinoceros, Cape buffaloes, Defassa waterbucks, Cape buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, duikers, bushbucks, Masai giraffes, leopards, to mention but a few. Also enjoy the changing landscapes/ecosystems.
Later, you will return for lunch at the Lodge and continue discovering the natural beauty of Akagera National Park. Interestingly, you will switch gears in the afternoon and ride on a boat along the soothing Lake Ihema to learn about the exceptional ecosystems and dominant aquatic animals that include Hippos, Nile crocodiles and several birds that are endemic to these wetlands and water bodies. Having had a chance to spot different animals and birds, you will retire back to your place of accommodation.
You will have more of Akagera National Park via a hot air balloon tour over its varying ecosystems-savannah grasslands, woodlands, Lakes, wetlands and marshland. It is self-explanatory that the tour that was recently launched in the perfect way of discovering hard-to-reach areas by game drives and walking safaris. See Masai giraffes, Cape buffaloes, Elephants, lions and others wandering through different areas.
The afternoon adventure is for the culture enthusiasts as you’ll be visiting Imigongo Art Center where different pieces of home décor are made from ordinary cow dung. This will blow your mind and later return for dinner and overnight at the Lodge.
Before leaving Akagera National Park, first enjoy an early game drive to see some of the animals that were previously missed and later drive back to Kigali city for your homebound flight or hotel. Along the way, it might interest you to tour any of the Genocide memorial centers to learn about the painful 100 days that shaped Rwanda’s unity.
